Whole cloves can tend to overwhelm a recipe, so I stud a couple of pieces of the orange peel with a clove instead of adding them directly to the slow cooker.If you want to serve the wine with fresh orange slices, that’s fine! After an hour or so of slow cooking, the white pith can turn the wine bitter.
